Help with the thoery test

As well as practising your driving skills, you should also be reading and applying The Highway Code.

The Highway Code explains the rules of the road.  It tells you what some of the signs mean and helps you to understand the road markings.  I can help you to learn The Highway Code by providing fun quizzes that will test your knowledge and, of course, I will explain anything that might be confusing.  Life is always busy and hectic but just 10 minutes practise everyday can really help you to get to grips with the Highway Code.  You'll probably have lots of things going on in the rest of your life, but getting to grips with The Highway Code will improve your driving practise and stand you in good stead for the rest of your driving life.

It is, in fact, a legal requirement to know and understand The Highway Code and this is why the Theory Test came into being.

The Theory Test is a 50-question multiple-choice test.  To pass you must answer 43 or more questions correctly within 57 minutes.  Questions are chosen at random from a bank of over 1,000 questions, and you answer by touching the screen.  During the test you have the option to skip questions and return to them later. It then moves on to a hazard perception test.  This part of the theory test requires you to view 14 hazard video clips on the computer screen of approximately one minute each.  You are required to watch these clips as if you were the driver.  There will be 15 hazards to find - at least one on each clip, however, one clip will have 2 hazards.  The hazard clips will not contain any sound - just like the old silent movies.  You click either the left or right mouse button whenever you think you can see a hazard developing.  The speed at which you click the mouse button as a hazard develops will determine your score for that particular hazard clip.  You can score between 0 and 5 on each hazard. Therefore the maximum you can score is 75 (i.e. 15 hazards x 5).  To pass you need a score of 44.

The Theory Test costs £25.

In addition to tackling The Highway Code, you can also buy online Theory Test preparation kits to help you - but please make sure they are Driving Standards approved, or you run the risk of reading incorrect information.
